Great Run at Mustang Stampede!

stampede1

Hello Gryphons 99G Family!!

I wanted to send a note of congratulations to our 99G Red team for their amazing run during the Mustang Stampede tournament.  It was a great opportunity to see how our girls match up with some of Northern California’s top teams.

Going into this past weekend’s tournament, our expectation was to compete and display the beautiful soccer that the girls are beginning to play. Throughout the tournament, our girls played their hearts out, running, passing, dribbling, communicating and showing a winning attitude. Our team showed their understanding of the game and opened many eyes at the tournament – they ended up finishing second in their bracket.

Our girls played each game with heart, passion and most importantly, as a team.  I am very proud of the hard work each of the girls are giving. Their consistent practice attendance and willingness to learn is showing more and more on the field.

I also want to thank our parents for the energy and enthusiasm they showed throughout the weekend. Believe me, it really helps the girls know that they are supported!  Also, thank you coach John for making sure the girls are ready for warm up, setting things up before games, and working with me during games.

Great job Gryphons 99G Red!
(Proud) Coach Ric

Join the Gryphons Girls’ Soccer Program!

The Gryphons girls’ soccer U10 teams are seeking motivated and committed players to join us this Fall. Eligible players must have been born between August 1, 1999 and July 31, 2000. Why join?

  • Great coaching: our coaches are awesome. They provide the very best instruction in soccer skills, strategies and techniques. And they care about coordinated team play as well as individual player development.
  • Competitive year-round play: it’s a commitment, but the Gryphons are dedicated to playing competitive soccer year-around. It’s amazing how playing real games against varied opponents improves skills, fitness and teamwork.

For tryouts and/or practice sessions, please contact one of our coaches:

  • Ricardo Marta (RGNMarta23 at aol.com)

Puma Seawolf Champions!

What an exciting weekend!!! I’m pleased to congratulate the 99G Red team for the first championship in the program’s young history. It was a well deserved championship – our girls played some really good soccer.

I am very proud of the girls and the effort they’ve made. Throughout the day, the girls showed that their hard work and what they are being taught is beginning to sink in.  Although we have more work to do, this is an accomplishment that should be celebrated by all 99G members.

Open Practice Sessions For New Players

We are nearing the end of the Spring season, and we’ve really enjoyed seeing our girls improve this year. Now as we prepare for a brief break in June and the start of the summer training, I wanted to take this time to remind our site visitors that we have opened practice sessions in the next few weeks (and our summer training session) to any new players who might be interested in participating in competitive soccer. Please remember that the 99G Gryphons program works with girls who were born between August 1, 1999 and July 31, 2000. For other age/gender groups, please visit our main Gryphons club site.

If you would like to join us or know someone who might be interested, please feel free to contact me directly at rgnmarta23 at aol.com.

Manteca Play Date Review

This past Sunday, April 26th, our 99G Red team participated in the 2nd NorCal Playdate, which was hosted by the Manteca Soccer Club. It was a sunny and beautiful day for soccer. The event took place at Woodward Park in Manteca, last season’s location for the 2008 NorCal State Cup Semi and Finals weekend.

I was very proud of the girls’ performance. Although we had disappointing results in our first two games, the girls continue to show that they are beginning to understand how this game should be played. I was pleased with the overall effort, but most importantly the use of the passing game, movement without the ball and ability to keep shape on the field. The 99G Red went into this playdate after also playing a very dominant game vs. Burlingame Kickers. Although the 99 Red does not (yet!) hold a winning record, I have to be honest and say that the record does not reflect the major improvement that the girls are showing.  They are all putting in the maximum effort and are not allowing the final results take away from the positive things that are happening. They are beginning to buy into the style of soccer Gryphons 99G is expected to play.

These games are definitely having a positive effect on our players. The additional games are definitely giving them the opportunity to work on many of the skills and tactics that are being taught during practice. It is an uphill battle, but our girls are definitely making great progress. I can’t wait to see how much they will all grow after this 2009 season. I really hope that for the next playdate, which will be hosted by the Sonoma County Alliance Club, we will be able to bring both our 99G Red and White teams. Please make sure that you check your availability for the NorCal Playdate #3 by Tuesday, May 5th!!!

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,
Coach Ric

Norcal Play Date

This past Sunday, the Gryphons 99G program fielded a combined red/white team at the Norcal play date held at Sonoma State University. The competition was tough, but our girls improved throughout the day as they got more accustomed to the speed of tournament play. This year, I’d like to see our teams play ~40 or more games so that our girls get “battle hardened”.

Great job, team!

Coach Ric
